EDIT: Fixed the instructions on step 2 and added some other things too. It should work better now.
I don't usually do tutorials, but I found this fire with its layers still existing that I had done maybe over a year ago and thought why not to make a tutorial out of it. x) Hope it helps someone.
How would you suggest painting objects within the fire, like hands or wands?
Did you use any textures for the brushes?
I got stuck on step 2. It's lacking description and whenever I try to make the holes it comes out blotchy and disgusting.
thank you very much >.<
So awesome, helped me out a bunch!
thank you so much for this tutorial! >w<

Awesome tutorial! I think this would help me.
WONDERFUL tutorial! Very simple yet effective! Thank you!
this is great! This is the only tutorial that I found which is merciful to us mouse users! SO COOL! I prefer to do the outline/glow of the fire last instead of first simply because the shape of the fire changes as you progress through.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Its really helpful <3
Its really helpful <3
Thank you! Fire is really hard to draw!
I can't figure out the density :/
Man, this helps out a lot! Of course, I have to alter the technique a bit though since the art program I use doesn't have a few things. Faving for future reference~
Oh my god did I need this!
Great help! I still need practice but definitely a good baseline/rough idea to follow (not to mention, I am using PS and not SAI)
Problem with the erase part
I definitely need practice on painting fire and this may help me greatly. Thanks for this.

This tutorial is great! Thank you so much, it's helped a lot for what I'm doing at the moment.
I used this tutorial to make a super badass fire-colored tail. Would you like to see when it's done? I'll link back here when I post it.
I found this tutorial very helpful, thank you so much. I tried to use it for blue fire, and I'm not sure if the result is flawed, or if blue fire simply is brighter in on that aspect. Either way, it turned out well, thank you!
