Fire Tutorial by Chiakiro Fire Tutorial by Chiakiro
EDIT: Fixed the instructions on step 2 and added some other things too. It should work better now.

I don't usually do tutorials, but I found this fire with its layers still existing that I had done maybe over a year ago and thought why not to make a tutorial out of it. x) Hope it helps someone.

I have been frequently using this tutorial and I love it. Thank you so very much for making it. I always love how the flames come out. Here is an example of where I used it www.weasyl.com/submission/1181… =)

What if I want to make different colours of flames?

still works. =) First time I used this tutorial I did blue and green flames. It just depends on what color you want to be your base and what color you want to use for highlighting. Either way you still use white, because it shows off the heat. Hope this helped.

Can you explain step 2 further? I'm not able to use the eraser to make the edges look like that. It just ends up looking like eraser marks and blotches. Like it's just a blob. I'm sorry but this makes no sense to me :(

I can't explain it better than that. Try a lower opacity and you need to move your mouse around a bit instead of just clicking a hole into it. It takes a bit of practice I guess and I don't do it well every time even myself

one question though that you may or may not know the answer to:
what if the program i use doesn't have a luminosity mode...?
could you maybe tell me what it does so i can use a similar mode?

Thank you very much this will help me a lot with a character I am working on.  Edit: Omg thank you again the flames came out great. I had to use glow instead of lume, which is weird to find my program doesn't have that lol. But hey the glow worked just fine. Thanks again.

What do you mean by density? Opacity? Flow?
Reply
:iconrebreb21:
rebreb21 Featured By Owner Jun 23, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
Density is how hard or soft the brush stroke will appear on-screen. Opacity is how light or dark the brush stroke will be. Not sure about flow.

The brush's opacity I guess if that makes sense? I'm not sure how it is in other programs than SAI.

I got stuck on step 2. It's lacking description and whenever I try to make the holes it comes out blotchy and disgusting.

this is great! This is the only tutorial that I found which is merciful to us mouse users! SO COOL! I prefer to do the outline/glow of the fire last instead of first simply because the shape of the fire changes as you progress through. :)
